Former Major League Baseball player and manager Bucky Dent will be the keynote speaker at the 2018 Hot Stove Banquet, the Illinois Dugout Club announced. The Hot Stove Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, January 20 at the iHotel in Champaign.
Dent was the starting shortstop for the back-to-back World Series champion New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978, including winning World Series MVP honors in 1978. Dent is famous for his game-winning three-run home run against the Boston Red Sox in the American League East tie-breaker in 1978.
Information on tickets will be available at a later date.

The Illinois baseball team's 2018 Hot Stove Banquet will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the iHotel in Champaign. The event will begin in the early evening.

The University of Illinois celebrated its incredible athletics legacy by inducting its inaugural class of the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Sept. 30, 2017 at State Farm Center. 2 former Illini baseball players were among the 28 inductees. Lou Boudreau, Baseball/Basketball (1937-38) and Andy Phillip, Basketball/Baseball (1942-43, 47) were inducted posthumously.
Lou Boudreau is the only Illini in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He concluded his 15-year MLB career, including 10 seasons as a player-manager, as a seven-time All-Star and the 1948 American League MVP.

Andy Phillip, while known best for basketball, was an All-American baseball player with the Illini in 1947.

The Dugout Club is the official organization devoted to supporting the University of Illinois varsity baseball program. Your membership and support is used to facilitate valuable activities and operations that enhance the quality of the Illini baseball experience. By joining the Dugout Club you can have a direct impact on the program while showing your support for Illini athletics. Members are rewarded by gaining access to premium content including interviews, photos, video, and face-to-face contact with the team and the coaching staff.
All of the Illini sports programs need a little support to do great things. The Dugout Club makes a difference in the baseball program by coordinating fundraising events like the Hot Stove Banquet. The Dugout Club gave the funds that allowed the Illini to visit the Dominican Republic in late 2014. It also funds the Senior Dinner which recognizes the contributions of the Illini players who are departing the program. When the team makes a difference in the community, the Dugout Club is there to help with projects like the Food Drive for Harrisburg and Honor and Serve Day. In addition, funds from the Dugout Club were used in the near future to help put the finishing touches on the new Team Clubhouse. Your membership makes a difference in the lives of the players and makes possible worthwhile initiatives that benefit others in the community.
Illinois baseball is a proud program with a great history. The Dugout Club is vital in helping to ensure that the team’s high standard is maintained by providing physical and financial support to the program. Your support of Illini baseball is recognized and appreciated by all of the Illini players and coaches who have ever worn the Illini uniform. Go Illini!
